The word Abhyangam is a Sanskrit word which consists of 2 parts; Abhi means “to apply” and Angam means “Part of body parts”. Abhyangam is anointing and massaging Ayurvedic blend of oil all over the body. Abhyanga 1 need to be selected only when you are taking a one treatment on a single visit or may be combined with Swedanam Steam bath. Traditionally, Abhyangam massage in Ayurveda is performed to prepare our body before getting other Ayurvedic therapies. Selection of oil for Abhyangam massage is based on specific personality type of the person getting it. But it is almost impractical to perform personality type analysis in all Guests visiting our Center. Hence Ayurway Ayurvedic Wellness uses Triphala blend of oil to perform the Abhyangam massage which has the property of balancing all 3 Doshas/Energies at the same time. Triphala oil blend is mainly made of dry fruits of Amla (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), and Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica).
Abhyangam massages will be performed starting from head, neck, upper and lower back and back of the legs in one stretch. Then you turn over on your back, massages will be performed in the front of the body. Please mention how comfortable you are with applying oil on your body face and hairs before the starting the session. Note: Abhyangam massage is different from conventional massages. At Ayurway Ayurvedic Wellness we use warm oil. The strokes are faster but not too fast. So please be prepared for that. If you have recently done your hairs, you may opt out head massage with warm oil.
